ChatGPT: How to use it? – All you need to know

In this article, we see everything you need to know to use ChatGPT, the Artificial Intelligence that answers all your questions.

ChatGPT is a NLP model , it means that it can understand text.

But why is ChatGPT so much in the news right now?

This is because, beyond understanding a text, he can reply to your message by generating coherent sentences.

It can analyze a text, code a program, explain a concept, … in short it is the assistant of tomorrow.

If you want to know more about what this AI is, you can read our first article on the subject.

Let’s see now how you can use ChatGPT ?

Speak in multiple languages

First of all, it is important to specify that ChatGPT works in many languages.

You can speak to her in English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, …

Even better, if you start talking to her in a foreign language but have trouble understanding her, you can simply ask her to translate what she just said.

You can also copy a text in the chat and ask her for the translation.

Two things to remember though:

1. Her translation skills are not exceptional

Don’t expect to be able to translate a text without proofreading.

ChatGPT has the same shortcomings as current automatic translators.

Some words will be misspelled. Other sentences will simply not make sense.

If you use ChatGPT to translate a text, proofread it, and look for words and phrases that need to be changed.

2. ChatGPT has been trained mostly on English text

Indeed, the OpenAI engineers have used mainly data from the Internet, so text written in English.

In theory this should not be a problem since ChatGPT understands all languages BUT, you have to look at it this way: ChatGPT is optimized for the English language.

When you use ChatGPT and if you are familiar with English, prefer it to other languages.

Learn things easily

You can use ChatGPT to learn new things.

ChatGPT can tell you about a historical period, explain a scientific theory, and even tell you about famous authors.

If you’re a developer, for example, you can send her some code and ask her to explain it :

Even better, let’s say you want to know more about the main points to remember regarding a historical period: Ancient Greece.

You can ask him to give you the 5 most important dates of this period.

Here, ChatGPT gives us 5 bullets points.

But you can ask him to write an essay:

The results are amazing ☄️

But keep in mind that this essay is not written by a human.

It’s obvious!

Nevertheless you can use it as inspiration for your own essays.

Rephrase a text

You can also use ChatGPT to rephrase a text!

Now we can get back to what I was talking about earlier.

For example here, I ask him to reformulate the text about Ancient Greece by replacing “Greece” with “Saturn”.

ChatGPT is not just a robot that will replace each occurrence of “Greece”.

She understands that the essay changes its meaning.

In the French example, she uses the word “planet” instead of “region”:

I also asked her to change the tone of the essay to be more friendly.

She doesn’t seem to have understood this request.

If you ask her several requests at once, ChatGPT may not understand everything.

In this case, she will take the last request you asked her. Here: change “Greece” to “Saturn

In general, a good practice is to ask her one thing at a time, like this:

  • First message: change “Greece” to “Saturn
  • Second message: write this essay in a friendly tone

This ensures that ChatGPT handles all your requests.

Make up a story

Let’s go even further in the use of ChatGPT!

Here I asked: “Now explain to me how Alexander the Great arrived on Saturn”.

Problem: ChatGPT tells me that it is impossible that Alexander the Great went to Saturn in his time.

Actually, ChatGPT has a lot of security built in by the OpenAI developers.

Whether it is not to hurt or not to give certain ideas.

Some of these prohibitions include the following:

  • insult
  • sexual evocation
  • false information
  • incitement, advice

In this case, you should precise him to make up the story:

You can try it yourself!

For example by asking him to give you choices while writing.

This will allow you to influence the story as ChatGPT creates it.

For example, you could say, “Continue this story by giving me choices A, B, and C at each important step in Alexander’s journey.

ChatGPT will continue the story and then ask you what to decide, much like the Choose your own adventure book type.

Work for you?

Yes, ChatGPT understands scientific theories, can rephrase a text or even invent a story.

You can use ChatGPT to work for you, but be careful!

ChatGPT is not perfect.

You will find people who will tell you that ChatGPT can, for example, code for you.

I don’t believe it.

This AI only does basic things for the moment.

As soon as the request is complex, for example building a Genetic Algorithm, you are guaranteed to face problems.

ChatGPT will give you an answer but it will not be efficient, or even not work at all.

It takes skill to master ChatGPT and understand the answers it gives you.

ChatGPT is essentially an Assistant, not a Replacement.

Its current capabilities allow it to help you with your work, but you can’t let it do tasks on its own.

One last thing, ChatGPT has been trained on data from before 2022.

So you can’t ask it for example “the 10 things to remember from 2022”.

Whether it is for entertainment or to help you in your work, enjoy your exploration with ChatGPT 🔥

It’s a revolution!
